Exploring the underwater wonderland of St Leonard's pier in Victoria
A long Saturday workday ended the best way, with an hour long scuba dive with buddy Marcia. It wasn't without it's dramas. A forgotten sd card, and 13 degree water temp kept us on our toes. I had a goal of finding a shorthead seahorse which I found at the end of the dive, but Marcia was master spotter of the night. Her tuned in eyes finding this perfectly placed Southern Bobtail Squid. The combination of the green seagrass adding to it's beautifully matched hues, trying desperately to blend in. Despite the cold conditions and having to end it an hour, I thoroughly enjoy Melbourne winter diving. Happy bubbles, salty cheeks. JANUARY 20, 2022 / CORINNE TELFORD / 0 COMMENTS / EDIT Reflections of a first time blogger, by a media relations student. Creative juices flowing, ideas rolling out onto screen. Hours upon hours of time spent making my first blog website. “About me” page complete, a page dedicated to my passions of communication, sociology, scuba diving and underwater photography. Hours spent working my passions into a cohesive series of posts that incorporate media relations, while offering my creative interpretation. I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of it.Unfortunately, first lesson learnt. Be sure you understand the brief and read instructions. I was so caught up in the reading “How to blog” I was concentrating on making a blog roll, using visual content, including tags, categories and the blog topic choices. I got carried away with the creative freedom. BUT, it wasn’t a waste of time, I learnt plenty, the most surprising takeaway though, I really like blogging. I’ve always enjoyed writing, however with most university writing assignments there isn’t too much room for creative freedom. Unless of course your doing a creative writing class. The biggest challenge has been writing content for other people, to write blog posts that were conversational and engaging, and still answered the criteria. The posts also needed to be easy and enjoyable to read, nice to look at, and offered different opinions and perspectives. Another thing I learnt, writing is hard! What is appealing to one set of audience may not be to another, writing what I found to be interesting and what I’d like to read made it easier. My goal was to include parts of myself, my personality and opinions onto you the reader. I wanted to shine a light on what I think news is, what blogs I like to read, social media I follow and how the skills I’m refining now will help serve me in the future. Developing blog content has provided me the knowledge to know news values, to develop content that meets media relation needs, like visual PR, newsworthy angles and an emphasis on headlines. This assessment has given me the opportunity to practice what I’ve learned and given me the opportunity to practice those skills through this experience. Previously, I had never paid too much attention into why I read some blogs or articles. Now with eyes wide open, I’ve found myself consuming more, analysing the content and gaining more understanding about what makes a good blog. The second biggest takeaway I’ve learnt is creating visual content is just as important as the content you write. Knowing I have the ability to create visual content. Not having to rely on ready made content or copyright issues and attributions is a transferable skill I will continue to utilise and build on. If I could go back and change some things I would have spent less time creating a website and more time creating visual content and writing more blog posts, I set out to write a blog post on each topic so at the end I would be able to choose the best. Unfortunately, as they say “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” (Steinback J, 1937). It has been a rewarding experience, one I have thoroughly enjoyed. Corinne Telford ALR104 WEEK 7 TASK. Writing for an internal audience Manningham Socials Staff newsletter monthly 5 September 2021 issue What a fabulous start to Spring we are having. We have several projects happening in the upcoming months but firstly I want to thank all of you at Manningham City Council for the work we have been doing. We should all be very proud of the impact our campaign has had on our local shopping centers. Unfortunately, as you all maybe aware we have received some unwanted attention in the local newspaper. This has happened due to miscommunication over social media usage. At our recent online consultation, which was a great success with 30 families attending and voicing opinions on shopping centers. There was a staff member who unintentionally shared sensitive information on their personal Facebook page. “I was absolutely shocked,” Ms. Reader said. “To see screen captures and details about our circumstances online without our permission is outrageous,” Ms. Reader said. It is a breach of social media guidelines to produce material of Manningham council events without authorisation. However, we believe this happened due to a break down in social media usage guidelines. The employee was unaware of the social media guidelines and because of this no further action will be taken. “We have a strict social media policy in place, and Council expects employees to know about the policy and abide by it,” the Manager said. This incident does leave an opportunity for all of us to refresh our social media usage and privacy policy guidelines knowledge. A refresh course will need to be completed by the end of the week. It will be emailed to each member of staff. This is in response to the complaint from Ms. Reader. We have assured the family this kind of mistake was regrettable, and these actions will be undertaken to assure it does not happen again. Again, I want to thank you all for your hard work and thank you for taking the refresher course. We here at Manningham City Council value our residents and workers, as such we want to protect privacy and encourage our staff and community to continue to enjoy our community in a safe and supportive manner. Kind regards Keep up to date with more Manningham Council new with the new Manningham Socials Newsletter.
